Calendar Of Events

The Woman’s Club of Point Pleasant will sponsor progressive bridge games at the clubhouse, located at 513 St. Louis Ave., Point Pleasant Beach.

The games will take place on the following dates: Feb. 9 and 23, March 9 and 23, April 13 and 27, May 11 and 25. Each of the games will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Those who wish to participate are not required to have a partner. A $2 donation will be collected from all those who would like to participate.

The Stacey Book Club meets at 7:30 p.m. every second Tuesday of the month at the Manasquan Public Library, on Broad Street.

March’s discussion will focus on “Terrorists,” by John Updike. The event will take place Tuesday, March 9.

The book for April is “Founding Mothers,” by Cokie Roberts.

Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” is the book of choice for May.

All are welcome to join the book club.

The Manasquan High School will hold a 12-hour dance marathon, Squan-a-Thon, on Friday, April 16, 2010.

The event, which is to raise money to help conquer childhood cancer, will take place from 8 p.m. Friday night until 8 a.m. Saturday morning, April 17, at the high school.

Students should pick up a dancer application from Mr. Battaglia or Mrs. McKenzie at the high school.

Kathleen Scanlon will host Tuesday night Irish Ceili and Set dance classes in the Monsignor Casey Hall at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 751 Main Ave., through Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The Avon Public Library will host story hours throughout the winter and spring.

Story hours for 18-month-olds to 3-year-olds will take place on Tuesdays from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Story hours for 4- to 7-year-olds will take place on Wednesdays at 3 p.m.

The library is located at Fifth and Garfield avenues. Winter hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon until 7 p.m.; Tuesday and Friday from 1 to 5 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library is closed on Sunday.

St. James Episcopal Church of Bradley Beach will host a Mardi Gras Dinner Dance and Gift Auction at The Barclay in Belmar, on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. There will be a cash bar, and it is asked that festive attire be worn. The Women of Heart from St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 423 West Lake Ave., will host a Valentine Tea, on Feb. 13 in the church fellowship hall.

Tickets are $10 and there will be finger sandwiches, desserts and of course tea. All monies raised will help fund the Bahamas missions trip, set for March 6-13, where members of St. Paul’s and 4 other local churches will volunteer at an AIDS camp.
